Hazmat incident at White House, secret service cordons area in Washington DC

Secret Service units blocked off roads around the US President's official residence, while a DC Fire Department hazmat team was scrambled to the scene to investigate. The scare was sparked by what was described by the USSS as an "unknown item". Fox News reported that a hazmat team was dispatched to the area surrounding Pennsylvania Avenue and 18th Street after the substance was discovered. The Secret Service said in a statement the White House was closed as a precaution as emergency crews investigated, and that the District of Columbia fire department was called in to evaluate and determine that the substance was not hazardous.

The White House was briefly forced to evacuate Sunday evening, after a white powder-like substance – later identified as cocaine – was discovered in a “work area” inside the West Wing, prompting an investigation by the U.S. A hazmat team was called to the area of 18th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue following the package's discovery. "The DC Fire Department was called to evaluate and quickly determined the item to be non-hazardous. At home, Chief Pappas enjoys gardening and spending time with her family, their dogs, parakeets, and bearded dragon.

A few years later, she was hired by Ventura County Fire Department and served as a firefighter for one year. She then became a firefighter with the City of Los Angeles and served there for four years. In 2001, after the attack on the World Trade Center, she was accepted into the Department’s Recruit Academy and graduated from the 109th Recruit Class later that year. From her college apartment, she watched Los Angeles burn and was impressed with the fire engines and tiller trucks racing across the city to extinguish the fires. After there were reports of a hazardous substance being found, Hazmat crews were also seen within the gate of the West Wing of the White House. The Secret Service are investigating a hazmat incident at the White House and have cordoned off a significant area around the White House.

In April 2020, Chief O’Brien was assigned as Deputy Fire Chief of the North Regional Operations Bureau where he oversaw the cities of Palmdale, Lancaster, Santa Clarita, and La Cañada Flintridge, as well as the Air & Wildland Division and the Technical Operations Section. He was also the incident commander of the Department’s Incident Management Team 1. In April 2014, Chief O’Brien was assigned to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Bureau and was responsible for the education and training of the Department’s 3,200 emergency medical technicians and 1,250 paramedics. The following year in November 2015, Chief O’Brien was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief and assigned to Division VI in the Central Regional Operations Bureau. In July 2017, he returned to the EMS Bureau as Acting Deputy Fire Chief and was officially promoted to Deputy Fire Chief in December 2017.

DC Fire and EMS did not immediately respond to a request to clarify the discrepancy. Of the 12 longshoremen who suffered minor injuries when they were exposed to the leaked concentrated industrial solvent, 11 were treated and released while one was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Twelve dock workers and one firefighter were treated for injuries related to an exposure after a chemical substance leaked from a container ship Sunday morning at the Port of Long Beach.

The PSB is comprised of the Fire Prevention Division, the Forestry Division and the Health Hazardous Materials Division. In Chief Peña’s assignment as the deputy fire chief of the North Regional Operations Bureau, he oversaw the cities of Palmdale, Lancaster, Santa Clarita, and La Cañada Flintridge, as well as the Technical Operations Section and the Air & Wildland Division. He has also served as operations section chief for the Department on many large wildland incidents and was the incident commander of the Department’s Incident Management Team 1. Currently assigned as the acting deputy fire chief of the East Regional Operations Bureau (EROB), Chief Inman leads 1,400 personnel across four divisions that include ten battalions and 76 fire stations serving 33 cities. Previous assignments include managing the EROB’s Division 2 as the assistant fire chief which consisted of two battalions and sixteen fire stations serving nine cities.

10 1: Introduction to Scaffold Safety

scaffold are the workers qualified to design scaffolds

Cantilever scaffolding (also called needle scaffolding) is made to come out from a building at an angle using a separate scaffold. Images of scaffolding have been found on ancient artifacts such as the Berlin Foundry Cup, a Greek drinking cup made in the 5th century BC. The use of scaffolding dates as far back as the stone age—in fact, there’s evidence that scaffolding was used over 17,000 years ago by those who made the famous paleolithic cave paintings at Lascaux. Wood platforms shall not be covered with opaque finishes, except that platform edges may be covered or marked for identification. Platforms may be coated periodically with wood preservatives, fire-retardant finishes, and slip-resistant finishes; however, the coating may not obscure the top or bottom wood.

The qualified person must do adequate preplanning to assure the safe erection and use of the scaffold. Preplanning must include determining the necessary type of scaffolding for the job, the maximum load for the scaffold, assuring a good foundation, and avoiding electrical hazards. The common hazards that erectors and dismantlers face include access, collapse, electrical, fall, instability, and struck-by hazards. Scaffold erectors are those employees who have been designated (based on training and experience) by the department to be the employees who are responsible for the erection and maintenance of department scaffolds on the Princeton University campus. Erectors can solicit materials and components from other employees who may be on the ground, but the ultimate adding / subtracting of components to a scaffold shall be accomplished by an authorized scaffold erector.

scaffold are the workers qualified to design scaffolds

American Society of Safety Professionals

Scaffolds are erected, moved, dismantled, or altered only under the supervision and direction of a competent person qualified in scaffold erection, moving, dismantling, or alteration. Such activities are performed only by experienced and trained erectors selected for such work by a competent person. A competent person selects the appropriate scaffold for the task, supervises the assembly of the scaffold system and inspects each component. He must also understand, recognize, control and eliminate any hazards, such as access issues, possible instability and collapse during assembly/disassembly, electrical hazards, and fall and struck-by hazards.

The Dangers of Working on Scaffolding

After inspectors find these areas, maintenance workers will address those defects by standing on scaffolding to perform their work. Workers commonly can stand on scaffolding to clean windows and other parts of skyrise buildings. Scaffold dismantling and storage are the final steps that can ensure scaffold planks and components are preserved for future use and prevent accidents during disassembly. Since the original approval of the A10.8 standard in 1969, scaffolding work has evolved considerably as materials, components and technology have changed, allowing for a wider variety of scaffolding options for use on work sites.

Scaffolds must not be erected, used, dismantled, altered, or moved such that they or any conductive material handled on them might come closer to exposed and energized powerlines. OSHA provides minimum distance guidelines for insulated and uninsulated lines depending on the voltage. When it comes to using scaffolding, employers must ensure that scaffolds and scaffold components are not loaded in excess of their maximum intended loads or rated capacities, whichever is less.

Update to the New OSHA Recordkeeping Requirements

Many industries deploy scaffolding to get work done, specifically in construction, where millions of employees use scaffolding on a regular basis. One who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or work conditions that are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees and who has the authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them. Educate your employees on how to spot defective flooring planks and any other flaws in the scaffolding system. The business of scaffolding is quite fascinating in that parts and pieces can be assembled in countless combinations to provide elevated worker access.

Office of Environmental Health and Safety

The front edge of all platforms shall not be more than 14 inches from the face of the work, unless guardrail systems are erected along the front edge and/or personal fall arrest systems are used. Each end of a platform, unless cleated or otherwise restrained by hooks or equivalent means, shall extend over the centerline of its support at least 6 inches. Prior to assembly, a qualified person must design the scaffold and set the specifications for using it.

Erecting the Scaffold

But the third option—drones—presents a way for inspectors to collect the data they need remotely, without having to put themselves in danger. However, there are some scenarios where buying your own could make sense—here are some things to keep in mind when trying to decide whether to rent or buy scaffolding. There are many factors to consider when trying to decide whether to rent scaffolding or purchase scaffolding. In general, most big companies that use scaffolding choose to rent instead of deal with the logistics and cost that come with buying and storing their own.

Ask Our Safety Experts!

The platform supported by suspended scaffolding can be raised or lowered as needed. Inspections are one of the top uses of scaffolding, since scaffolding allows inspectors to reach areas they couldn’t otherwise access in order to perform visual inspections or other kinds of NDT testing. Scaffolding can be crucial for construction, since it allows workers to stand at height on a stable surface. This is especially true for skyscrapers and other high rise structures, but its use is also common for construction work done closer to the ground.

Staying up-to-date on scaffold safety regulations and industry standards is vital to maintaining compliance, avoiding fines, and fostering a safe work environment. Lindemer also advises that passive fall protection, such as a guardrail, is preferable when working on scaffolding so that users will not have to think about their work positioning or where they are tied off, as they would with a personal fall arrest system. “Every scaffold should be designed by a qualified person who can perform the analysis needed to ensure that it’s designed properly,” says Dale Lindemer, chair of the A10.8 committee.

Scaffolding can be built up from the ground, suspended from the top of buildings, and cantilevered off the sides of structures. Aerial lifts are commonly used for construction projects that require workers to access a variety of different levels in a single day or work cycle. The direct connections to roofs and floors, and counterweights used to balance adjustable suspension scaffolds, must be capable of resisting at least four times the tipping moment imposed by the scaffold operating at the rated load of the hoist. Alternatively, they must withstand a minimum of 1.5 times the tipping moment imposed by the scaffold operating at the stall load of the hoist, whichever is greater.

In 2020, the Bureau of Labor Statistics Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) reported 52 scaffolding fatalities. By adhering to safety rules, regulations, and best practices, these fatalities could have been avoided. Cal/OSHA standards require scaffolding at heights where ladders are unsafe and there is no permanent structure at least 20 inches wide. Designing scaffolds is not the same as simply building a scaffold to comply with the OSHA regulations since the OSHA regulations are minimum requirements, not instructions or directions for design. A qualified person will incorporate the requirements specified in the regulations in the design, not use the regulations as the design.

There’s a big bulletin board at the entrance of the Roosevelt Park Campus that reads, “Welcome to the Family.” At the beginning of every school year, we post pictures of all new students and staff on the board. Standing next to the board every morning is Superintendent John Booy, who shakes each student’s hand and greets them by name. He’s done this for 39 years now, even as the student body has grown into the hundreds. Our mission is to be open to all students and families, from every background and culture and income level.

Our Community The Potters House At One LA

All five Democratic candidates for attorney general have committed to protecting the right to abortion and access to FDA-approved medications such as mifepristone. Meanwhile, the Republican candidates have said that they do not believe the state constitution guarantees the right to an abortion. As attorney general, both would leave the issue for the state legislature to decide. The primary results in this pivotal swing state are certain to reveal insights about the major issues shaping the general election, namely on abortion and the Israel-Hamas war. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have essentially clinched their party’s 2024 nominations for the White House. But Pennsylvania voters on Tuesday will cast their ballots in a slew of contentious and potentially decisive congressional and state races that are still sure to make waves as the campaign chugs toward November.

One hour before each evening service

The Potter’s House provides a Christ-centered education for students of all ethnic heritages and income levels, equipping them to serve God and society to their fullest potential. To create a culture in which people who are a part of our body feel they belong to a family more than a church. Creating a culture of doing family well, both at home and in our body. Because the local districts tend to lean Democratic or Republican, the results of the primary elections can have a large sway on the race. Candidates across these races are running on some of the biggest issues facing the country — from abortion to the war in Gaza to election integrity. And the candidates whom Democratic and Republican voters pick on Tuesday could give larger insights about their views on topics that appear central to this fall's general election.

THE WORD

To create a culture of being the hands and feet of Jesus, taking the towel and become second. To create a culture of honoring people for who they are, not what they do. Weekday prayer meeting in the church building

There are several other high-profile House primary races to watch in Pennsylvania. The election on Tuesday could reveal just how salient the issue of the war is for Democratic voters — particularly in swing areas of the country. It may also forecast how other progressives facing similar challenges from moderate Democrats could fair in their races. The primary race could demonstrate just how important the issue of abortion is for the Republican Party’s base.

The Potter's House Mission - to be a place where broken people find wholeness and community through His presence, prayer and process. To help them grow in their identity, to identify God’s design for their life and step into the fullness of God’s Kingdom. To be a place where broken people find wholeness and community through His presence, prayer and process. Our vision at The Potter’s House (TPH) is for God to mold you into a purpose-filled vessel, pointing all grace and glory back to Him. It’s our prayer that His Spirit will fully illuminate you on this heaven-bound journey, through every trial and victory. And as He empowers you to persevere through life’s struggles, may you confidently communicate God’s vibrant hope to others — shining His eternal light on the lost.

The Potters House Community

The Potter’s House, as a community of learners, will relentlessly pursue deeper discipleship with Jesus Christ and continually discover new ways to equip students to follow God throughout a lifetime of faithful service in the kingdom of God. We envision The Potter’s House as a place to continue fostering deep relationships with all in our community. Through dependence on prayer, we will expand our voice and advocate for a model of Christ-centered education in under-resourced neighborhoods. At the Potter’s House, Jesus is the center of everything we teach and all we do. Our staff is a dedicated community of Jesus-followers who feel called to serve our students and show them the love of Christ.

Students are discipled in the way of Christ, and taught how to live out his calling in their classrooms, homes, and communities. They are challenged to respond to injustice and oppression around them in the name of Jesus. The Growing Hope Together campaign is launched, to fund the renovation of the church building as well as the expansion and renovation of the HS campus. "The shortcomings of the individual are because of the still progressing sanctification of the saints". • Salvation is given through the death of Christ and is received through faith toward Christ and repentance toward God. • The Bible is the infallible, eternal and final Word of God with ultimate authority.

Changing Lives

God faithfully provided the funds needed for their education, year after year, even as the school grew. A middle school program began in 1992, and a high school campus opened in 1998. The Fire Marshall only gave permission to use this space for one year, so they immediately began looking for a more permanent space. Adjacent to the church was the former Southwest Christian School building, which was being sold by a local school board at a six-figure price the young school could not possibly afford. They stepped out in faith and agreed to buy the building, and God miraculously provided the funding through the generosity of several local Christian business leaders.

And our faith doesn’t end at the “amen.” A Potter’s House education is centered in Christ, through every grade and subject and activity. In 1974, A small group of college graduates felt called by God to move into Roosevelt Park, a low-income neighborhood on the southwest side of Grand Rapids, and open their doors to the neighborhood. Their efforts evolved into a weekly program called Kid Power for hundreds of neighborhood kids.

After six years, they decided to begin a school, to better serve the significant academic, emotional, and spiritual needs of the children. The Potter’s House began in 1981 in the basement of nearby Grandville Avenue CRC, with 12 elementary-age students and two volunteer teachers. The Potter’s House now enrolls more than 620 students representing a kaleidoscope of backgrounds and cultures, including over 30 countries of origin. God has been faithful to us in ways we never could have dreamed or imagined, and as we trust and seek Him, He continues to work miracles in the lives of the students and families we serve. All 17 members of Pennsylvania’s congressional delegation are running for re-election in 2024 and three of those incumbents are facing serious primary challengers.

Larry Neville stated that the split was partially due to restrictions which prevented them from maturing and enlarging their expressions of faith. To create a culture of where we actively engage people who desire to walk closer with Jesus and become more like Him. To teach His commands as well as how to live as sons and daughters of God. A culture where we seek to glorify God in every area (building, finances, events, etc.) Personal pursuit and intimacy with Holy Spirit. In Pennsylvania’s 12th District, which includes Pittsburgh and some of its suburbs, first-term progressive Rep. Summer Lee, is facing a primary challenge over her opposition to the Israel-Hamas war.

The Soul Food Bistro was opened by The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship of Jacksonville, FL in 1998. The original name was The Potter’s House Cafe where the menu, size, and scale of the facility was significantly different. The original space was only around 600 sq.ft., but the place was packed and the word traveled fast about the extraordinary food.

Currently, Democrats have a 9-8 advantage — meaning one general election race in November could make all the difference. Pastors Touré Roberts and Sarah Jakes Roberts have dedicated their lives, voices, and resources to creating transformational experiences that activate one’s True self resulting in a deeper relationship with God, and collision with purpose. We believe that every child should have access to quality, Christ-centered education, from preschool to 12th grade. Unfortunately, many families—especially those from low-income, minority, and immigrant backgrounds—feel that such an education is out of their reach.

Time Magazine recognized Jakes as “America’s Best Preacher,” and the Dallas-based minister has pioneered people toward purpose for the past 45 years through his life-changing T.D. His earnest approach of meeting others where they are emboldens them to reach the places they want to be. Following an immersive corporate worship experience, Wednesday School attendees will break into a smaller group to attend a class of their choice. Classes will be led by various TPH pastors on specific topics designed to cultivate a deeper, intentional relationship with God.
